If you’re like many writers, writing is something you do in your spare time. You also may be working on a tight budget, so you might ask yourself why investing in a creative writing software program would improve your writing. Word processing programs, after all, provide you with many of the tools you need to write efficiently and effectively. However, creative writing software can take your writing process to the next level, providing tools that are more refined than the ones you’ll find in the average word processing program.

We pretty much just keep the loop on the seasons running at our house. Best program ever!!

A Special Section of the Sept/Oct 2010 edition of Poets & Writers Magazine has a chart ranking U.S. colleges/universities offering MFAs (Masters of Fine Arts) degrees in all aspects of creative writing. If the MFA program is good, no doubt the undergraduate curriculum will be too. Here s the link: http://www.pw.org/content/2011_mfa_rankings_the_top_fifty_0 Click on the chart image and enlarge the print to read it best. The well-respected magazine US News and World Report also publishes an annual ranking of best colleges/universities in the US. Some of the info is available online on their web pages: http://www.usnews.com/sections/education However, I don t find the list for schools with creative writing programs. Most likely, that list is in the full Best Colleges report. One must either pay for the full report to access it online. Or, most likely your local public library (or even your high school library) will hold the print edition. Just go to the library and talk with a reference librarian who can help you find it to look through. Since many of the schools listed are state universities you will also want to investigate the tuition for those living in-state (if you live in one of the particular states) and those who are out-of-state. The private colleges/universities (like Brown Univ. & NYU) do not have differing tuitions for in-state and out-of-state students. Also, from my own personal experience, often the private colleges/universities have a bigger "pot of money" available to grant as scholarship funds to students than do the state funded schools. Best wishes

We are co-educational, inclusive, and affordable; our diverse and dedicated faculty is committed to helping students of all backgrounds achieve their writing goals.

At Solstice, students are in residence on campus for ten days, twice a year, for a total of five residencies over two years. During the 10-day residencies, students and faculty gather on Pine Manor College’s lovely, wooded campus a mere five miles from downtown Boston and attend workshops, classes, panel discussions, and readings. At the end of the residency, each student is matched with a faculty mentor with whom he or she will work individually during the six-month semester to follow. Take a virtual tour of the PMC campus !

Ranked among the top low-residency MFA creative writing programs in the country, Lesley’s MFA Program in Creative Writing nurtures and challenges your literary promise through rich mentor relationships and interdisciplinary study.

Twice a year you’ll attend a nine-day residency, joining an artistic community in craft seminars, workshops, readings, receptions, meals, and publishing-related events. During each of the four semesters between residencies, you’ll work on your creative and critical writing one-on-one with your faculty mentor. This format allows for the best of community inspiration and individual attention.

The top performers in our review are WriteItNow , the Gold Award winner; WriteWay Pro , the Silver Award winner; and Power Structure , the Bronze Award winner. Here’s more on choosing a creative writing software to meet your needs, along with detail on how we arrived at our ranking of 10 products.

I’ve divided the following list between the free classes and the paid classes, so you have a better idea of what is out there for you.

Be careful to distinguish between courses that come with feedback on your writing and ones that just include information. Both can be helpful, but make sure you’re signing up for what you need.
