A good review should summarize the state of knowledge on a well-defined topic in the psychology of men and masculinity in concise and clear ways. This means that the review is written with exceptional clarity, cohesiveness, conciseness, and comprehensiveness.

A good review should describe in detail the systematic process or method that was used in doing the literature review. There are articulated ways to do "narrative reviews" just as there are ways of doing experiments or meta-analyses (Baumeister & Leary, 1997; Bem, 1995).

The trick with analysing literature is to think a bit abstractly and really read deep into the text. I know that sounds a bit wishy washy, but what I mean is once you have the jist of what is going on (which you do if you can summarise correctly), look for linguistic devices the author has used. You make your point, then you quote your evidence to back up the quote, and then you explain/analyse your point. Perhaps if there is a colour mentioned like green you can comment on how the green is symbolic of envy and jealousy? Or how the colour red has connotations of love/passion? Another example is looking for metaphors and similes and commenting on why you think these might have been used? Think of the symbolism that may have been used and the certain connotations the words used carry. Maybe personification of inanimate objects can hint towards a disturbed personality? I had to read a poem once that said "the answerphone kept screaming" for example - this is a personification of the phone because it s not the phone that is "screaming" Look for rhetoric perhaps or repetition? Why did the writer want this bit in particular to stand out? You can even comment on punctuation, there could be a use of ellipses that is worthy of comment? Nobody can write the essays for you and it s important to remember nothing in english is wrong if you can legitimately justify and back up your point. Even better if you can think of two conflicting ideas based on the same point, analyse that! Then say what you think etc. It will come through practice - keep at it!

Since art forms like literature are perceived and interpreted subjectively, they are "shaped" in this sense by who is doing the perceiving and interpreting. Conversely, the perceiver (reader, in this case) is clearly influenced or shaped by, in this case, what he or she has read.
